The Hangout

Navigating the teenage years is challenging for most youth, but adolescence is even more complicated for socio-economically disadvantaged teens. With support from the Loudoun County government and Loudoun County Public Schools, INMED USA has developed a program to teach teens positive coping skills for better mental health and wellness.

The Hangout is a free program that provides middle- and high-school students the opportunity to participate in activities in a safe space where they feel comfortable.

This program is held in the afternoons at our Opportunity Center.  Groups of teens participate in activities ranging from art and music therapy to mindfulness and cooking a meal to share. The activities, which are led by INMED staff and volunteers, help teens build strong support networks.

The Hangout

Meet Aaron, the young man playing piano in the video above.  Aaron has been in INMED USA’s youth program for over a year, participating in many activities, especially art classes, art shows, music therapy, and the program called Hangout. The program Hangout is where we discover Aaron’s passion for the piano and his talent. Aaron began playing the piano at INMED’s family events and for the youth program arts shows. Click here to learn more about Aaron’s journey in finding his talent.

This video also highlights the wonderful art created by youth at the Hangout. If you are interested in purchasing a piece of art contact Andres Uribe at outreach@inmed.org.
