STERLING, VA (January 4, 2018): Children and families returning to INMED’s Family & Youth Opportunity Center after winter break were treated to a bright, freshly painted interior, some new furnishings and a much-needed storage closet for donated supplies. The spruced-up center is a New Year’s gift from a group of industrious volunteers led by CyrusOne, a leading global data center REIT, and HITT Contracting, who arrived before dawn on December 19 for an annual employee volunteer day of service. The Opportunity Center serves low-income children and families in Loudoun County, Virginia through a variety of support and empowerment programs.
“At a time when most organizations are winding down for the holidays, these volunteers renovated and improved our functionality in ways that we could not readily afford,” noted INMED Opportunity Center Executive Director Cecilia Capece. “They sanded, stained, painted, steamed, waxed, wired, caulked, plumbed, created tables and installed a storage closet. When our staff, students and program participants returned to the Opportunity Center, they were amazed by this heartfelt gesture.”
“It was a privilege for the CyrusOne team to assist the children and families at the INMED Opportunity Center,” said Chris Napier, director-data center operations, CyrusOne. “Since our expansion into Northern Virginia in 2014, the company’s focus on supporting the communities we serve with both our time and resources has led to numerous volunteer and philanthropic opportunities. We’re thrilled to partner with our friends at HITT to work on behalf of the Opportunity Center and look forward to continuing our support of this important organization.”
HITT, which constructs many of CyrusOne’s data centers, enlisted the giving spirit of its vast subcontractor community, including Critical Project Services, Rock Spring Contracting, Sparkle Painting Co., Rosendin Electric, W.E. Bowers and N. J. Sullivan Co., to complete this fast-track renovation in record time.
“Many businesses have the desire to perform community service, but finding the right match with an organization that will evolve into a long-term relationship isn’t that easy,” noted HITT Vice President Coleby D. Cyrtmus. “We’re looking to make a meaningful impact in the community and were fortunate to discover INMED’s Opportunity Center, which fits nicely into HITT’s corporate responsibility program.”
The Opportunity Center project was especially meaningful to Suzanna Diebes, a new CyrusOne Project Manager. “I believe strongly in the value of education, so having the chance to use my
skills to help an organization that is preparing disadvantaged children for a brighter future is very rewarding,” she said. “I feel proud and blessed to be part of a company that encourages giving
back to the community in this way.”
